School Singers Travel to Australia
During Spring Break singers in the Chorale will travel on a twelve-day trip to Australia.
During Spring Break singers in the Chorale will travel on a twelve-day trip to Australia. This trip is the culmination of over a year of planning and fund raising, and is one of the most extensive tours which musical forces from the Cathedral Schools have made. Twenty-six boys and thirty-six girls will make this trip, supervised by eight adults, including members of the STA Faculty and Staff and several parents. To prepare for the trip, students have been participating in Saturday rehearsals since mid-February.
In Australia, the singers will be hosted by six independent schools, five of which are Anglican and four of which are exclusively boys' schools: Firbank Grammar and Brighton Grammar in Melbourne; Timbertop (the outward bound campus of Geelong Grammar); Canberra Grammar Schools; St. Andrew's Cathedral School and Knox Grammar School in Sydney. The group will also sing at St. Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne; at St. Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney; and at the American Embassy in Canberra. They will visit nature parks, museums, and historic sites, as well as spending time hiking and time at the beach.
The music department invites everyone to a concert Friday evening, March 5, at 8:00 in the Cathedral, to hear a preview of what the singers will carry with them in song to our new friends Down Under.
